Despite this being the first role the Colombian artist gets in a theater play, this is not the first time he has shown his acting skills. In the past, Yatra has had the opportunity to collaborate with Netflix by voice acting Jesper Johansson in the animated family Christmas movie “Klaus,” leading the Spaniard musical rom-com “Érase Una Vez (Pero Ya No)”, and currently as a supporting actor in the new movie “Space Cadet” available now on Prime. His past movie roles have given him a deep insight into the meaning of being an actor for the bigger screen. Coupled with his exceptional talent as a singer and dancer, this makes him an ideal choice for this Broadway classic.
For him, this opportunity was out of his hands when he was younger. In a recent interview with People Magazine Yatra reflected on his professional and personal journey he stated,: "getting to Broadway was something I had imagined but it seemed impossible…Now that it is coming true in Chicago, which is such an iconic show, it is something that fills me with great excitement."
He also recalled going to Broadway as a teenager and his excitement at seeing a Latino on stage during a performance.
"I remember many years ago when I went to see Evita on Broadway and Ricky Martin was starring in it. It blew my mind to see a Latino on Broadway, also performing in English," said Yatra. This moment not only shaped his aspirations as an artist but also highlighted the importance of representation and diversity in theater.
Yatra's participation in “Chicago” not only marks his debut as a promising theater star but also serves as a source of inspiration for other members of the Latinx community who seek an opportunity to feel the warm lights of Broadway and shine. His journey exemplifies how a dream, no matter how distant it appears, can become a reality through hard work and determination.
