MidnighTreats has just relocated to its new home in College Park, MD. The local dessert spot will replace the former Insomnia Cookies storefront.

MidnighTreats isn’t just a bakery; it's a mission built on compassion, sustainability, and creativity.

Their mission is to build a sustainable and peaceful environment through plant-based foods. The founders believe their cookies are a commitment to the environment and the animals that share it with us. Based on this belief, they have decided to be 100% plant-based in hopes of ultimately ending the abusive factory farming industry.

Their commitment to making an impact doesn’t go unnoticed. To date, they have donated $7,000 to animal sanctuaries across the country, reassuring and caring for abused animals. They have also planted over 21,455 trees in efforts to restore our environment and donated $3,325 to local schools and shelters around the NoVA community.

Every cookie on their menu is 100% plant-based, but what really makes them stand out is that each cookie is soft, chewy, and rich, showing that plant-based baking can go up against any traditional recipe.

Walking into MidnighTreats, you’re instantly hit with the smell of warm, fresh cookies.

The shop has a late-night hangout vibe, and the staff are friendly and quick to answer any questions that customers may have while picking out their cookies.

MidnighTreats also has a leftover cookie option; it's a small idea with a big impact. At the end of each day, any extra cookies that didn’t sell during the day are packaged and sold the next day at a discounted price.

This new approach aligns perfectly with their eco-conscious mission by reducing food waste while still delivering delicious cookies to customers at a discounted price.

These leftover cookies still look and taste fresh; a slight warming up brings them right back to life. MidnighTreats makes the reheating process as simple as can be. Simply microwave your cookie for about 10-15 seconds, or if you have more time, heat it in a toaster oven for two to three minutes at a low temperature. When reheated, the cookies taste as if they just came out of the oven. For those who love a good dessert and also want to save, the leftover option is the best of both worlds.

For my first visit, I decided to order a four-pack along with one single cookie. Each cookie has a distinct flavor and texture, showcasing the variety that is available at MidnighTreats.

The first cookie I tried was the Miss Virginia Oreo Cheesecake. The cookie consists of a cookie and cream base surrounding a creamy cheesecake center, allowing for that perfect balance between a buttery cookie base and a cheesecake filling. The filling was rich without being too heavy, and the Oreo cookie chunks provided the right amount of crunch.

Next was a great fall cookie, the Vanilla Pumpkin Spice Oatmeal. With a vanilla oatmeal pumpkin spice base, white chocolate chips, and a vanilla drizzle. The oatmeal gives the cookie a chewy texture while the pumpkin spice base adds the fall flavor. The vanilla drizzle ties the cookie together in an effortless way that makes you want another.

The Birthday Bash is a soft, chewy, sprinkle-filled funfetti cookie that tastes like a slice of funfetti cake. The cookie is a balance of sweet and buttery, while being a good amount of chewy. This cookie shows that even simpler ideas, when done right, can be just as good as complex ones.

Finally, the Brownie Cookie is a chocolate lover’s dream. It's deep, dark, and fudgy, capturing the best parts of a brownie while maintaining its chewy texture. The edges were the right amount of crispness, while the center was still soft and gooey. It was a great balance of the rich without being overwhelming. It reminded me of a warm brownie right out of the oven.

After finishing the four-pack, I also got one more cookie, the Cinna-Roll Cookie. It was just like a fresh cinnamon roll, but in cookie form. It was warm, soft, and a perfect balance of cinnamon, drizzled with a sweet vanilla icing. The cookie was chunkier than the others but still had that signature texture. The sweet vanilla icing melted flawlessly when warmed, seeping into the cookie. Although sweet, it wasn’t overpowering; it had the right mix of spice and sweetness.

Between their creative flavors, high-quality ingredients, and options such as the discounted leftovers, MidnighTreats has created its own niche. For me, the Miss Virginia Oreo Cheesecake was the highlight of my trip, but every cookie has something amazing to offer.

If you find yourself in need of a sweet treat, MidnighTreats is a perfect place to stop and satisfy your sweet tooth.
